Berisha Thanks Kevin Muscat for Placing Faith during Tough Times

Melbourne Victory striker BesartBerisha says that he is extremely thankful of manager Kevin Muscat for keeping the faith in him through a tough time.

The 31-year-old went through a tough spell during the end of the last campaign after not managed to score for several matches. Now, though, he seems to back to his best after managing four goals in the last two matches. His return to form was marked with a hat-trick against Western Sydney Wanderers. Prior to this run, Berisha had not scored a goal since the hat-trick against Wellington Phoenix towards the end of October.

His return to form has helped Melbourne Victory win three out of the last four matches. The club are now seven points from the top of the table, as Sydney continue to be runaway leaders in the Australian A-League. After having taken his tally to five goals going into the 10th game of the campaign, there is little doubt thatBerisha can help Melbourne Victory continue their climb up the table. Continue reading

LAWRENCE THOMAS EXPECTED TO RETURN TO ACTION

Melbourne Victory is expecting first choice goalkeeper Lawrence Thomas to return from his fitness concerns.

The new shot stopper in Matt Acton would not be happy with the news as his clean sheet on his debut would not be enough to stop Thomas from taking over regularly.

Thomas injured his finger and had to be sidelined. Acton was in action for Victory against Alastair Bray but was pushed forward for the game against Newcastle Jets last week barely after a day’s rest.

Thomas is set to feature in the game against Perth Glory on Friday meaning Acton’s run might have to pause. The player must have been happy when he was given the opportunity to stay in goal in the 2-0 victory at AAMI Park. The game was his first’s since December 2013 when Brisbane thrashed Adelaide united 2-1.

“Lawrence trained this morning. That’s out of my hands. I came here not expecting to play straight away anyway, so whatever they decide to do – if [Thomas] is back playing, I’ll support him 100 percent, “Acton said.

The player admitted that he craves to be the first choice as “no goalkeeper aspires to be on the bench.” The 24-year old player used to play at Kaya in Philippines after previous experience in Myanmar.

Acton says that the rest of the weeks he will spend in the A-league would be beneficial even with Thomas in goal for the rest few months.

“I think it’s going to be beneficial, that’s for sure, because the standard of training is so high. I’m not worried about what the future holds,” he said. He added that he has never really worried much about the future, preferring to “improve every single day.”

Jose Mourinho never Slams Team in Media

Not often do the coaches slam their teams on TV, but, Jose Mourinho is the one who doesn’t mind doing so.

After every match Chelsea lost the previous season, Mourinho came up with the name of one or two players whom he held responsible for it and it sort of disunited the Chelsea squad.

And now as the tide has turned a little bit against him at United, he is on to his blame game again and is starting to pick out the names he thinks are the culprits of the defeats in open.

Regardless of his positive intention, if that’s what it is, behind speaking extrovertly, it will help him very little as it can give rise to negativity, insecurity and also conspiracy within the camp.

And, once the locker room refuses to back him, the exit door would open soon.

However, Deco, one of the old pupils of Mourinho, reckons his players should make peace with that habit of his as he will not stop doing that. Continue reading

Kevin Muscat Wants Focus on Next Game in Order to Overcome Shock Loss

A shock 4-1 defeat suffered by Melbourne Victory in the recent outing against Melbourne City has left Kevin Muscat in a spot of bother.

The manager, though, is confident that the club can recover quickly from this heavy defeat. However, he says that they should start focusing on the next game immediately if they are to recover properly. The result comes as a major surprise considering that Melbourne Victory were in a good shape coming into the game. Muscat admitted that he is likely to make some changes for the next game in order to keep the squad on its toes.

Most of the changes are likely to happen in the defensive side of the pitch after having seen the team concede four goals. In any other team, making changes after such a major slump would be extremely difficult due to the lack of quality across the squad. This, however, is not a problem with Melbourne Victory since the team has almost fully fit squad at the moment. Apart from James Troisi, the club does not have any major injury worries at the moment.Troisi is struggling with a collar bone injury and is unlikely to return soon. Muscat has hinted the possibility of using an unlikely player in the squad and it is likely to be teenagerSebPasquali, who was quite good in his debut against City.

MELBOURNE CITY WANT BOCA JUNIORS’ NICOLAS COLAZO

A-League giant Melbourne City are reportedly interested in another Latino addition. The global scouting network of the football club is in play here, as the side is looking for another Bruno Fornaroli-esque talent.

Boca Juniors Nicolas Colazo is the man targeted by the Australian side as the Argentine is the latest player to hit the club’s wish list.

Fernando Brandan was unveiled last month, but the attacking player might see some of his countrymen join him if all goes to plan. Colazo is reported to be among five players that are expected to join the side soon as marquee signings. The Herald Sun say no contract talks have been discussed, but the players are aware that they could earn around $500,000.

Aside the list, there are three others that City is considering as well. Two possibilities from Europe, and another South American. The City Football Group is tapping into their 35-man scouting network to get players that fit into its culture. The scouts are particularly interested in acquiring another raw talent as Uruguayan forward Fornaroli. City have denied comments on the matter until they decide to go forward with the deals. The 26-year old Colazo is a likely possibility, but his agent has downplayed links as he spoke to an Argentine radio station that they player was yet to sign with the A-League side.

Melbourne Victory continued their impressive form in pre-season

Melbourne Victory continued their impressive form in pre-season after a 3-1 win over Newcastle Jets.

This victory came in the FFA Cup and the club will now be playing in the round of 16. Manager Kevin Muscat says that he is extremely happy with the progress that the team has made in the pre-season. Over the last few weeks, Melbourne Victory have been involved in friendly matches against the likes of Atletico Madrid. Their biggest challenge was probably the game against Juventus in the International Champions Cup. Melbourne Victory managed to come out successful after a penalty shootout win.

All these results make for a good reading for the team ahead of the season opener in October. Even though Melbourne Victory will only be involved in the FFA cup matches for quite a while, the results do give the team a lot of hope. The fixtures for the Australian A-league have been announced with Melbourne Victory set for a very tough start. They take on Brisbane Roars in the opening game of the season. Muscat admitted that it had been quite a while since the team came back from the intense touring and pre-season preparation. The latter currently plays for Italian club Hellas Veronas and has reportedly agreed to leave the club. It is believed that the discussions have reached an advance stage and that a decision will be taken very soon.

He will be an ideal replacement for MatthieuDelipierre, who has announced his retirement at the end of the season. Vangelis Moras has extensive knowledge of European football after having played at Swansea, Bologna, and Hellas Veronas.

MELBOURNE VICTORY CRASH OUT OF ASIAN LEAGUE, THANKS TO JEONBUK MOTORS

Melbourne Victory were knocked out of the Asian League thanks to Jeonbuk Motors.

Brazilian forward Leonardo dished out another piece of Asian Champions heartache for Melbourne Victory and put Jeonbuk Motors into Asia’s last eight. The A-League club tumbled out of Asia on Tuesday in Jeonju, South Korea, losing 2-1 on the night and 3-2 on aggregate to the K-League giants.

It was not to be for Victory’s departing trio of Archie Thompson, Kosta Barbarouses and Matthieu Delpierre, who will now leave the club. Victory were stretched and ultimately dissembled by Jeonbuk, who boast a formidable record in the elite continental competition.

Just as he did in Melbourne, Leonardo proved lethal, scoring twice to decide the tie. Besart Berisha’s late volley from substitute Jai Ingham’s cross gave Victory seven minutes to find a second, which would have put Victory ahead on away goals, but the hosts held on. The loss came in the same city where their 2014 Asian campaign ended in the group stages. Continue reading

Arsenal qualified for the Champions League and Wenger is getting ready

Arsenal are guaranteed that they will be finishing in at least the 4th spot of the Premier League in this season and this is enough for them to snatch a Champions League qualification spot for their upcoming campaign.

Arsene Wenger is a continuous target of criticism as the Frenchman fails to push Arsenal to the Premier League title and it has not been any different this time around as it was Leicester City which came out on top and won the English league but Arsenal has consistently been able to compete in the Champions League and the Premier League club will be competing once again for the 19th successive season.

The French coach of Arsenal has revealed minor details in relation to the approaching summer transfer window as he is already preparing his team for the next season and a few signings are expected to take place as he said: ‘’We have to add something defensively as a team to be more ruthless. I don’t think we are soft but yes, we need to toughen up. In some games we were caught, but a lot of the teams have the same problem.” Continue reading

The season of Melbourne Victory in the A-League is over after having suffered a loss against Brisbane Road when they faced off at Suncorp Stadium on April 15th.

It didn’t take long for the head coach of Melbourne Victory to voice his disappointment as Kevin Muscat said: “I don’t think we deserved that tonight. We were very good. We were the better team but it can be a cruel game sometimes and it’s certainly one of those nights tonight. For the season to finish like it has for us tonight, I’m gutted. I’m shattered for the group. I don’t think I need to convince you that we didn’t deserve that tonight. We were very good,” Continue reading

Giggs has warned Jose Mourinho regarding the youth policy at Manchester United

Ryan Giggs, the Manchester United assistant manager, has issued a warning to Jose Mourinho about the importance of the youth academy in Manchester United. Indeed, Mourinho has always been perceived as a manager that is more interested in signing accomplished players rather than developing them.

Manchester United, who is renowned for the success of their youth policy, will want their culture to remain whoever becomes the next manager. With reports that Jose Mourinho has agreed to a verbal agreement to be the next Manchester United manager, Ryan Giggs will want to ensure that the new manager will respect the United tradition.

Despite the current season that has not been up to the expectations, Louis van Gaal has given the opportunity to players such as Cameron Borthwick-Jackson and Marcus Rashford, who have performed extremely well. Rashford has gained praise for his performance in the Champions League game where he scored two goals against Midtjylland.

Ryan Giggs believe that it is part of the Manchester United culture to ensure that there are not only world-class players from abroad on the pitch but also good academy players. According to Giggs, this is what separate Manchester United from the other clubs and any manager will have to abide by this philosophy. Continue reading

Brisbane Roar recently suffered a thrashing at the hands of Melbourne Victory

Brisbane Roar recently suffered a thrashing at the hands of Melbourne Victory, but manager Kevin Muscat refused to get carried away because of this impressive win.

Melbourne managed a 4-0 win against the table leaders. The team was coming on the back of a three match unbeaten run, but they were not expected to get such a convincing win against one of the inform teams in the division. After all, Melbourne Victory had just conceded three goals in the win over Central Coast United. Muscat appears to have downplayed the victory since he sees a lot of work ahead of the team.

The team are still on the fringes of going out of a play-off place if results take a sharp turn for the worst. The win over Brisbane Roar has helped Melbourne Victory strengthen their position over Adelaide United and Wellington Phoenix. Both teams are already several points behind Melbourne in the table. Muscat will be hoping to build on this means when his team have yet another home game against one of the teams near the top of the table. Sydney are third in the table and are only three points ahead of Melbourne Victory. This should be a great motivation for the home team to get three points and move up the table. Continue reading
