MILLIGAN LINKED

Australian midfielder Mark Milligan has been linked with a move away from Melbourne Victory in the last few weeks, but he has rejected speculation by saying that it would take something special to take him away from the club.

The 27-year-old has been one of the best players for the national team in the recent World Cup qualifying matches. His stunning form has been one of the reasons behind Australia making it into the 2014 FIFA World Cup without any troubles. Now, it has been reported that several Championship clubs are looking at his signature.

QPR, who were relegated from the Premier league last season, are thought to be highly interested in the midfielder. It is also understood that clubs from Korea and China are also interested in his services. However, he has rejected rumours by saying that he wants to keep playing regularly and Melbourne Victory offers the best opportunity to do so.

The World Cup is just round the corner and Milligan fears that lack of regular first-team football will result in the missing out on the squad. Milligan has managed to come into the international frame after dislodging Jedinak, and is one of my tips.

He has been one of the impressive players in the recent squad announced by national team manager Holger Osieck.

“I feel I’ve benefited greatly from working under Ange Postecoglou at Victory and I believe the club is in for a big year. I am more than happy to be a part of that. The key for me is to be playing week in week out leading into the World Cup because like any player I want to give myself the greatest chance of being picked for Brazil. For me, it would be a backward step to go somewhere and then have to sit on the bench. It wouldn’t make any sense,” said Milligan.
